Group: IFS for Liberation

Does your inner world feel oppressive? Do you struggle with harsh and hostile self-talk? You’re not alone. This fall, bring the “cops in your head” to a supportive facilitated group, where we’ll all work towards liberation and healing together. Wednesday evenings, online, starting October 1.

Group: IFS for Liberation

Wouldn’t it be great to feel a sense of freedom within yourself?

By the time we’re adults, many of us feel anything but free inside. That’s because parts of us have been trying to keep us safe using the strategies of social control they know from our families and society. So we get stuck in distressing patterns like perfectionism, resentment, hyper-independence, and over-accountability.

In this facilitated online group, we’ll use the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework to meet the “cops in our heads.” You’ll learn why they oppress other parts of who you are—and find ways to achieve a sense of safety without harsh internal policing. The goal: Liberation for every part of you are.

Where and when?

  • 🖥️ Virtually, over Zoom
  • 🪩 Wednesday evenings, 5:00 – 6:30 PM Central

Benefits of IFS for Liberation

A participant shared what they got from last year’s group: “It feels easier to be more compassionate towards myself now that I have an idea of how my system is set up.”

How we’ll heal and get free together

By working with our internal oppression in community, we aim to help each other:

  • Understand and heal the parts of ourselves that are protecting us in oppressive ways
  • Act more often in alignment with our values, without getting paralyzed or pushed into unsustainable action
  • Build resilience to the discomfort that comes from learning about the systems that cause harm and our role in them
  • Decrease our dependence on external guidance and affirmation
  • Increase our ability to connect and be vulnerable with others

By working toward individual liberation, we’ll help each other get free in community. And the more we get free, the better we can resist the forces of oppression in the world outside us.

Meet facilitators Augustin and Ash

Getting to know ourselves through the Internal Family Systems model let us both get free from internal oppression so we can live and work in freedom, aligned with our values.

  • Augustin, a therapist, identifies as white, queer, trans, and disabled.
  • Ash, a coach, identifies as a light-skinned biracial person, queer, and cis.

We both stand in solidarity with our clients as they navigate their own journeys from internal oppression to liberation. That’s just what this workshop is for.

What will group meetings be like?

We’ll be a small group — no more than 11 people in all, including the facilitators, and each meeting will last 90 minutes. Here’s how each session will go:

  1. Grounding meditation. To start, Ash and Augustin will lead the group in a simple exercise to get us all grounded.
  2. A round of check-ins. Everybody will check in briefly, in response to a question we’ll pose.
  3. Exploration practice. Augustin and Ash will introduce a simple practice for exploring our own inner worlds, and then invite everybody to do it for themselves (in groups, pairs, or individually).
  4. Group Discussion. After we all practice, we’ll regroup in a circle to share what we’ve learned from it.
  5. Homework. Ash and Augustin will introduce a “homework” practice to try during the coming week and answer any questions that come up.
  6. Closing. We’ll bid each other farewell until next time.

Interested? Let’s talk!

Because we’ll be talking about heavy stuff in a small group, we’re going to talk to folks beforehand so we can assemble a community that sets all of us up for healing and liberation. Just fill out the form below (click here if that’s easier), and Ash or Augustin will be in touch to schedule a 15-minute chat.
